Deloitte
In 2000, Richmond based Katy Apostolides, Deloitte Services LP, was first instrumental in encouraging volunteers throught the organization to support SCAN through their involvement in such special events as the Christmas Tree Lot and the Boulders' Midweek Concert Series. Within a year, Brad Welles, a director of audit services for Deloitte & Touche LLP, joined SCAN's board of directors, where he served as treasurer during the fiscal years of 2002 - 2005. As noted by Welles, "several years ago, our employees conducted a study to identify the community issues which most concerned them," and "most identified children as their biggest concern." As a result, "we began concentrating our efforts there, and more people started getting involved with SCAN."
For three years in a row, Deloitte professionals based in Richmond, Virginia have organized and provded most of the volunteer drivers used to shuttle guests between courses at the Progressive Dinner and Auction As noted by Welles "Deloitte & Touche LLP's audit manager Paul Meyer served as transportation team leader" for the event. Deloitte has sponsored the event since it was first introduced in 2003 and has been a lead sponsor for the past two years and will be again for the 2008 Progressive Dinner on April 12, 2008.
Deloitte's U.S. firms provide audit, tax, consulting, and financial advisory services. Deloitte encourages its people to be active participants in the communites they serve and provides time during regular business hours for employees to volunteer. They also make direct financial contributions to those organizations supported by their employees. As noted by Welles, Deloitte also sponsors an organization wide "Impact Day," when employees dedicate one working day per year performing a special servce project for an organization in their local community.
SCAN is grateful for Deloitte's ongoing support. According to SCAN Executive Director Jeanine Harper, Deloitte has "made a tremendous difference in our ability to serve children in Richmond."
