The "Gift Patrol" from Genworth Financial visited SCAN on July 11 to announce that the organization had been selected as one of the ten beneficiaries for the Genworth Children’s Advantage Classic concert with Grammy winner James Taylor.
"We are thrilled to bring music legend James Taylor to Richmond as part of the 2007 Genworth Children’s Advantage Classic," said Michael D. Fraizer, chairman and CEO of Genworth Financial. "In addition to his musical achievements, he has been recognized by the Grammies® for his charitable contributions and we are excited that he is coming to town to help raise funds for youth."
Taylor will perform at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Stuart C. Siegel Center on Saturday, October 20, 2007. Tickets for the concert range from $50-$125 and are now available through VCU Tickets. The event will raise $50,000 for each of the beneficiaries.
Andre Agassi and Stefanie Graf will also participate in the event by hosting a Genworth Youth Fair on the following Sunday, October 21. The fair will feature fun and educational healthy living activities for youth with a special tennis clinic with Agassi and Graf.

SCAN’s Board of Young Professionals hosted a Special Preview of the area’s newest music venue, Toad’s Place of Richmond, on June 22 with a special performance from Carbon Leaf and an opening act from the local band Poston Brown Project. Over 800 fans and SCAN supporters showed up to raise $10,000. The funds will be used to provide child abuse prevention services.
"The event was a huge success for us," said Hunter Irby from the Board of Young Professionals. "It was a great opportunity to work with Toad’s, and we had an amazing crowd. We hope to do even better next year."
The Board of Young Professionals, which is entering its second year, is a junior board for Richmonders who want to develop leadership roles in the community and help prevent child abuse and neglect in this area. In addition to providing hands-on support for SCAN’s programs, the Young Professionals will organize an event each year to help raise funds for the organization.
